Promoting the art of Bonsai in Northern Ireland

Tree 8: Scots Pine

Tree Species: Scots Pine (Pinus Sylvestris)

Owner: Ian Young – NIBS member since 1993 and current club Chairperson

Potter if Known: Dragonfly Bonsai Pots

History:

This Scots Pine was originally collected in Keilder Forest in England in the late 1990’s by Peter Snart of Willowbog Bonsai before being sold to Stephen Dodds. (NIBS Committee member past Chair and Secretary)

The first styling was done by Stephen and Ian Young on this tree on 11th September 2001, a day that for other reasons can never be forgotten and the reason that this tree is now called the 9/11 Pine.

Stephen downsized his collection in 2016 concentrating on smaller sized trees and sold the pine to Ian Young who didn’t want to see the tree being sold outside of Ireland.

Ian then refined the pine further in a workshop with Bjorn Bjorholm in 2019, photos below.
