Tree Species: European Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus)

Owner: Ben Bovis

Potter if Known:

History:

Age: Approx 17 years

This deciduous bonsai tree was grown from a 2 year old sapling purchased as hedging material back in 2011. It was immediately planted in the ground to speed up development by growing the trunk freely for a number of years before training as bonsai material in a box. Growth focused on the extension and thickening of lower branches to help improve taper of the trunk. Over time it has acquired a more refined appearance in smaller and more appropriate pot choices.

One of the main attractions of this deciduous tree is it’s reliable autumn colouring before leap drop.
