Tree 17: Portugese Oak

Tree Species: Portugese Oak (Quercus faginea)

Owner: Phil Boucher – NIBS member since 2016 and current club Webmaster

Potter if Known:  Chinese

History:  The tree was collected from the wild in Europe and then imported to the UK. This is what it looked like when Phil bought it in 2019.

The initial styling of the tree was carried out at a club workshop run by Peter in January 2020.

The tree was repotted into a training pot in 2020 but the roots made it difficult to get the right angle.

A club meeting with an Oak theme in 2022. Ready for some trimming back.

Gradual refinement of the branches took place over the next few years. Below are images from 2024 and 2025. The pot is being held at an angle to position the tree for a better image.

In 2026 the tree was repotted with a new angle made possible by the new deeper pot.
